Is that a floating room in your atrium or are you just glad to see me?

I’ve updated the Drawings and Models page with our second set of 3D renderings as well as a newer floorplan.

You’ll notice an interesting, oddly-shaped room suspended above the cafe… Here’s the story on that:

Brazos Place, the downtown mixed use space we’ve secured for LaunchPad Coworking, has an atrium in the middle of the building. It’s 2 floors high with skylights at the top. Sounds perfect for the cafe area of LaunchPad, right?

Well, almost. The problem is the windows surrounding the 2nd floor of the atrium. From the ground floor, you look up through windows into other offices. On 3 sides you see the sides of gray-brown cubicle walls pushed up to the window. On the 4th you see a messy mail room.

Not exactly conducive to the inspiring, comfortable space we envision.

This second set of drawings shows a meeting room suspended above the cafe. It sort of “unpeels” into a staircase. The walls would be a translucent material - Panelite, maybe — which would make the room glow in the day from the skylight and at night from the room lights.

The “ceiling” consists of narrow strips of wood that provide a canopy. It creates a kind of organic mesh through which the light still shines. And the folks working upstairs in cubicle land still get the beneifit of natural light and an interesting view of LaunchPad. The shapes of the room and the canopy will likely change quite a bit, but we’re headed in this direction.
