Your dream coworking space

January 4th, 2008 · Posted by Julie Gomoll

Some offer showers for workers who like to bike to work. Other options we’ve heard about include hammocks, drop-in massage therapists, mailing address services, and room for pets.

Price and membership models vary, too. Some places are seeking x number of anchor tenants to share a lease. Other places are more open to drop-in and occasional workers. At LaunchPad Coworking, we’ll be offering individual spaces and meeting rooms by the hour.

Let’s have a no-holds-barred discussion here — what would your dream coworking space include? A faux boss you can hire to hover over you to keep you from slacking? A reflexologist under every desk? We’re not making any promises, but we’re always open to ideas.

    Fabulous ergonomics.

Beauty, color and texture to make me feel comfortable but energized and inspired.

Super quality, state of the art projector and a meeting room that frames our work like a masterpiece so I look like a goddess in front of my clients. Great coffee and food to offer them. The quality of the meeting room experience will become associated with my brand.

A super squeaky clean bathroom that is inviting and comfy, never runs out of towels or toilet paper. A sense of abundance here. No having to think or cope in the loo. Generously sized multistall setup :)

Someplace to take my loud self when I’m on the phone. Ideally this includes a large area to pace and declaim. So what I really want is a not-echoey Louvre gallery with cushy rugs underfoot for my pacing, but I’ll settle for a nonclaustrophobic “phone booth” with something on the wall to focus on and distract me from the fact that I can’t log 5 miles an hour pacing :)

A refreshing flow of new ideas from the other coworkers – I’m hoping they will do some of the legwork vetting the latest social media tools, remote hosting tools, blogging widgets, juicy new prospects and projects.

My coworkers will be thriving and working on fascinating projects, helping me maintain the “abundant universe” mindset that gets me involved with great projects and clients. These coworkers have the attitude and talent and followthrough I need, as well as diverse, thought provoking skills that pull me in fascinating new business directions. They are so productive I’ll be working to keep up, and so supportive that if I can’t, I will keep coming and get out of my slump.

No dogs or other babies, but show me pictures of them and tell me stories about them to keep me human and connected.

Pricing model is an excellent question. I’m thinking blocks of time prepurchased, generous or no expiration date. That way, if I like the coworking mojo I can use it quickly and buy more, if that takes me some time, I can use it for the meeting rooms and amenities and still feel like I got a great deal.

Really good black and green tea selection that includes darjeeling and assam.

Yeah, we’ll get right on setting up a Holodeck so you can pace the Louvre while you talk on the phone :)

I hope the synergy will happen amongst the patrons of LaunchPad Coworking, too. I envision plenty of regulars, and have all sorts of ideas about how to harness some of that great creative energy. I’m eager to jump on some of these ideas after we open.

No dogs, no babies… no worries.

Blocks of time prepurchased at a discount: check. No expiration date: check (within reason. I’ve seen that Simpsons episode where they cash in their Animal Crackers trip to China 25 years after the fact… :)

Really good black and green tea. Check. We’ll have tea service. You can count on exceptional beverages in general. I am a total beverage snob :)

and… we *will* have phone booths for private calls. You’ll also have access to the giant lobby for pacing :)
